The Sayisi Dene, (Peopleof the East), are Chipewyan, a Dene First Nation Aboriginal peoples of Canada groupliving in northern Manitoba. They are members of the "Sayisi Dene FirstNation (Tadoule Lake, Manitoba)" and are notable for living anomadic caribou-hunting and gathering existence.

In 1956, the First Nation wasrelocated to Churchill by government authorities. The sudden move to an urbansetting contributed to to unforseen social and cultural problems. As a result,the Frist Nation took the initiative and returned to their traditional lands.After a number of unsuccessful attempts to establish a new steelement, the siteat Tadoule was finally chosen and was named Churchill Indian Reserve #1.

According to the regionalpopulation statistics of Demember 31st, 2003, the First Nation hasan on-reserve population of 329 and an off-reserve population of 342. The totalFirst Nationpopulation is 671. The native language is Dene. The First Nation issignatory to the 1910 adhesion to Treaty 5.
